Stone eScorpion – Stonepower Introduces the World’s First Fully Battery-Driven Crawler Drill Rig Stonepower has launched the world’s first fully battery-driven crawler drill rig. The new Stone eScorpion has been specifically developed for demanding urban environments and confined workspaces such as tunnels and indoor construction sites, where zero emissions and low noise levels are essential without compromising drilling performance. Emission-Free Power and Versatility with Respect for the Environment The fully electric eScorpion produces no CO₂ emissions or exhaust gases, making it an excellent choice for densely populated areas. Its low noise level significantly reduces environmental noise pollution. Optional equipment such as the water mist system for dust control and the drilling noise reducer enable the machine to meet even the strictest environmental requirements on urban job sites. “The machine is highly versatile and adaptable thanks to our extensive range of accessories. A good example is the quick-coupling splitting boom available as an alternative to the conventional drilling boom. Its popularity has grown rapidly as rock is increasingly split instead of blasted in urban environments. In fact, we are currently the only company on the market offering this kind of integrated drilling and splitting solution,” says Petri Lehtinen, Head of Product Development responsible for the eScorpion development project. Low Operating and Maintenance Costs Thanks to its electric drivetrain, the machine offers significantly lower operating and maintenance costs compared to combustion engine machines. There are no fuel costs, and the simple structure of the electric motor reduces maintenance points and extends service intervals, directly minimizing downtime and improving productivity. Near-Continuous Operation At the core of the eScorpion is a safe and long-lasting 120 kWh LFP battery, enabling approximately 150–200 meters of drilling on a single charge. The machine can also be continuously charged during operation using a standard 22 kW site power connection, allowing for near-continuous working without unnecessary interruptions. “We are extremely proud to introduce a machine that meets the industry’s growing demands for environmental responsibility and operational efficiency. Our guiding mission is ‘We keep rock moving,’ and the eScorpion truly embodies that philosophy. We provide our customers with an electrified machine concept that can be adapted to different job site requirements and meets the needs of modern rock excavation,” says Mikko Mäkimattila, CEO and Head of International Sales at Stonepower .
